Samvatsari 2015

Samvatsari 2015

What is Samvatsari? Samvatsari is that auspicious day of the year wherein people seek forgiveness of other people they might have hurt intentionally or unintentionally. It is characterized by people saying “Michhami Dukkam” to each other. This essentially means “I beg your forgiveness”. It is a day which helps us in introspecting and repenting for the mistakes that we have made - mistakes that hurt others, mistakes that upset us. Mistakes caused through our mind, speech and body. Mistakes that may either be obvious or subtle; repetitive or new.

But isn’t it difficult to recount all the mistakes made during the year, on one particular day itself? We make umpteen mistakes in a day itself, don’t we? How will we be able to recollect mistakes of an entire year then?

While something is better than nothing, why wait a year long to cleanse ourselves? Why not do “Michhami Dukkam” daily, rather on the spot? It is simple and effective – all we have to do is to invoke the Lord or Soul within the person whom we have hurt and do pratikraman by saying, "Oh Lord! I repent for my mistake. I ask for your forgiveness and resolve never to repeat it."

“Pratikraman” will make us feel light and blissful.

This Samvatsari let us seek forgiveness for our mistakes and henceforth continue with inner pratikraman on the spot whenever we hurt someone.

Happy Janmashtami!

The annual celebration of the birth of Lord Kirshna is celebrated with great devotion across India and many countries. Everyone stays up till midnight to usher in Lord Krishna’s birth with chants, prayers, devotional songs and sweets. Though Janmashtami is celebrated in different ways and rituals, the underlying devotion to Lord Krishna remains the same.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna is known and worshipped in two forms, as the Baal Krishna (child Krishna) and as Yogeshwar Krishna. However, the only person who truly understands Lord Krishna is the Gnani Purush (Self Realized person), for such a person has the same awareness of the soul as Lord Krishna.

In essence, Lord Krishna had constant awareness of being a Pure Soul - the constant awareness that, ’The body is separate and I am a Pure Soul’. Despite his physical involvement in worldly affairs, he always had the awareness that 'I am not the 'doer' of anything’ – which in fact is the essence of The Bhagwad Gita as well.

This Janmashtami, irrespective of the form or ritual or religion associated with Lord Krishna, let us bow down to His Pure Soul –  may we also achieve the awareness of Pure Soul and continue our worldly life with equanimity.

Happy Rakshabandhan!

Raksha Bandhan: Get the Ultimate Protection

For most of us, the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan is associated with protection and love, more commonly to between brother and sister. However, the ancient roots of this festival perhaps give us a broader interpretation, including even the spiritual significance.

Do you remember the sacred help of Draupadi to Krishna and vice-versa?

The relation between the two symbolizes the fact that no one in this world can defeat the ultimate protection from the Supreme Being. It shows how Lord Krishna protected Draupadi with an infinitely lengthy sari, in return for healing His wound with just one cloth piece.

Nothing could overcome this protection, right? What does this suggest?

It simply conveys that our Almighty God help takes the remaining 99 steps, if we just take only 1 with full heart, on the exclusive spiritual path. This assistance from the Supreme Lord is divine and has no match or alternative in this world. At the subtlest or absolute level, we become worthy of this divine protection only when we renounce our wretched, finite egoism.

This renunciation for permanent protection is so simple – just surrender it heartily to a Gnani, Param Pujya Dadashri, in whom that egoism is already gone forever. This is His only desire so that you can identify your true Self within, without much struggle as He faced before becoming self-realized in 1958.

Surrendering the ego with full faith and heart makes us worthy of His divine protection. This protection is such that it not only makes you remain in peace amidst several adversities of this era but also in infinite, permanent bliss of the Pure Self within, 24x7.

So, why not tie a bond of permanent protection to Param Pujya Dadashri, this coming Raksha Bandhan, so that we can free ourselves from all karma bondages for rejoicing in the state of complete liberation?
